About

Alex Warofka works at the intersection of human rights and technology, with a focus on content regulation, transparency, and the role of social media in conflict.

He is currently Product Policy Manager for Human Rights at Facebook, and represents Facebook on the board of the Global Network Initiative. Before joining Facebook, he worked as a researcher at the UCLA California Center for Population Research and received a Fulbright fellowship to document human rights abuses in Japan’s Industrial Trainee and Technical Internship Programme.

Alex has a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Chicago Harris School for Public Policy, and a BA in Economics from Case Western Reserve University. He has also studied at Peking University, Kyoto University, and the London School of Economics.

When not busy with his work, Alex is fond of ill-advised adventures involving ultralight backpacking, photography, and collecting passport stamps from countries on government travel warning lists.

Alex is proficient in English, Japanese, and conversational Mandarin.
